How we review cam sites
The essential:
  • Every score comes from the same 8 categories, each rated out of 10. Not a vague "we test thoroughly."
  • Before we score a platform, we sign up, pay real money for tokens or credits, and book a paid show.
  • Affiliate commissions never decides rank order.

This page explains our review methodology: the eight categories we score, how we test each platform ourselves, how often scores are updated, and how affiliate relationships work.

To see it in practice, check our ranked list of the best cam sites.

The criteria we score against

All our cam site reviews are rated using these eight criteria: models and variety, pricing value, payment options, features and tools, user interface, privacy and safety, video quality, and overall enjoyment.

The eight categories, defined

Here's what each one actually measures:

Category What it measures
Models & Variety How many performers, how diverse
Pricing Value What you get for what you pay
Payment Options Card, crypto, PayPal, privacy options
Features & Tools Toys, tipping menus, extras
User Interface How fast, how clean, how confusing
Privacy & Safety Private billing, data handling
Video Quality Stream resolution, stability
Overall Enjoyment The gut check after everything else

The only exception is our ranking of cam sites by category, where scores are calculated differently, based on how well each site fits a given category.

Why every category counts the same

No single category secretly outranks another. Cheap tokens don't beat privacy. A slick interface doesn't beat video quality.

That's why a platform can't win on one strength alone. A 9/10 in one review means the same thing as a 9/10 in another.

What the overall score actually means

The number at the bottom of a review sums up eight separate judgments. It's not a standalone verdict.

Every review explains why each category got its number. The digit alone is never the whole answer. Read the reasoning behind it before you treat it as final.

See this applied across every review on the site.

How a review actually gets made

Before a platform gets a score, Nick signs up with a real account. He buys tokens or credits with real money and spends real time in the rooms across more than one session. This isn't a desk review built off screenshots and press kits.

Who does the testing

Reviews on RateMyCams are tested and written by Nick Astra. He's covered the cam industry for over 10 years, including a stint at Private Media Group. Read Nick Astra's full editorial background for the details.

What gets paid for out of pocket

Testing means spending the same money a viewer would. That's an account signup, a real token or credit purchase, tips in a free room, and at least one paid private show per platform.

Paying for what a viewer pays for is what makes the pricing and payment scores real instead of theoretical.

How long we watch before scoring

A platform gets watched across several sessions, at different times of day, before we finalize a score.

One visit is a snapshot. Repeated sessions are what make the number actually match what you'll find when you show up.

How often scores get updated

Scores aren't frozen. We re-check them on a regular schedule, and certain events trigger an update outside that schedule too: a platform redesign, a pricing change, that kind of thing.

If you spot something out of date or just wrong, tell us and we'll re-check it.

How affiliate relationships work

When you sign up through some of our links, the platform may pay us a referral fee. You don't pay anything extra for that. That fee is what funds the accounts and token purchases described above.

The real question isn't whether affiliate links exist here. They do, and that's normal. The real question is whether commission decides rank. It doesn't.

A platform paying us a lower rate or doesn't pay us at all can score and rank above one paying more, because the same eight categories decide the outcome, not the payout. We are responsible for the quality of the content that we provide to our visitors.

What this process doesn't cover

Our reviews score what's visible and testable on the platform itself, they don't tell you which specific site fits your personal taste.

Trying to figure out which site fits you, not how it scores? How to choose a cam site walks through that decision directly.
